Telerehab allows individuals to remotely access rehabilitation within their home environment, under the supervision of a highly qualified Neurological Physiotherapist or Sports Therapist.
At this time, in line with government advice, we cannot complete face-to-face or hands on treatment. Telerehab offers an effective alternative whereby our Physiotherapists can continue to deliver quality rehabilitation via your phone, tablet, lap-top or PC.
Our Physiotherapist will be able to have eyes on you throughout your consultation, which enables them to provide expert advice, guided exercise and feedback, to ensure you are continuing to meet your rehabilitation goals.
PhysioFunction are passionate about continuing to support individuals to maximise their independence following life changing events, such as stroke, spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury and other neurological conditions.
We are not only offering Telerehab to all existing clients but are also offering new assessments to all individuals who would like to access Rehabilitation but cannot attend the clinic.
What is Telerehab?
Telerehab is a form of remote rehabilitation which uses a tablet, phone or webcam enabled computer with internet access. The process uses a video conferencing, which allows your Physiotherapist to see you and communicate with you throughout your consultation.
PhysioFunction are utilising a program called Zoom for all Telerehab sessions. Zoom is a free application which you can download onto your phone or tablet, or access via the internet.
It is a safe and secure means of communication.
What are the benefits of Telerehab?
Telerehab is highly beneficial for individuals who are currently unable to access Physiotherapy due to isolation requirements.
It allows you to work closely with a Physiotherapist or Sports Therapist. They will provide one to one treatment specifically tailored to your individual needs. They will be able to ensure you are completing exercises correctly, provide progressions, advice and support you in working towards your identified goals.
Telerehab can help keep you motivated and moving at home. Being in isolation may reduce the amount of activity most of us complete each day, which can lead to a lack of motivation, reduced exercise tolerance and increased stiffness. Having the support of a Physiotherapist or Sports Therapist will help keep you accountable and motivated to continue your rehabilitation whilst you are confined to your home.
Keeping moving is essential to maintain health, and prevent joint stiffness and muscle tightness, and deconditioning. It is our aim to support clients to keep active during this difficult time, so that they can continue with their rehabilitation during isolation.
Telerehab also provides access to social interaction, whether this is with your therapist in a 1:1 session, or as part of one of our TeleNeurofit groups.
What will happen during my Telerehab session?
All clients will receive a free initial support session to get set up and running on Zoom and prepared for their first Telerehab session. We want to make Telerehab accessible to all, so if you are interested but need additional support, please do not hesitate to contact us, we can help you get set up. We have this guide which will help you Getting Started With Telerehab
Although your Physiotherapist will not be able to provide “hands-on” therapy within the Telerehab session, they will be able to provide specialist assessment and analysis of your movement patterns. They will provide individualised treatment plans, which may include things such as exercises, stretches, self-massage techniques, provide specialist feedback and recommendations. Our physiotherapists can also work with you, your carers and/or loved ones in your household, to provide education and training on how they can support you with your rehabilitation at this time.
